MICHLER
A stockbroker by profession,
he left the world of finance in 1989 to live and work in the
wilderness. He now has seventeen years of experience as lodge
manager, owner, specialist guide and photo-journalist, 12
of them while based in the Okavango Delta, Botswana. He guides
throughout Southern and East Africa and his experience covers
all aspects of big game, photography, birding, cultural and
adventure safaris.
As a photojournalist, he
writes predominately for Africa Geographic and Africa Birds
& Birding, two of the continents leading nature-based
magazines. His topics cover conservation, wildlife management
and travel, and he has been writing a monthly column for Africa
Geographic since 2001. He has also worked as a researcher
and field coordinator on various natural history television
documentaries for international broadcasters, and annually
contributes to a short course on eco-tourism and conservation
at the University of Cape Town.
He is the author and photographer
of six books – This is Mozambique, Mozambique; A
Visual Souvenir, Botswana – The Insiders Guide, Zanzibar-
The Insiders Guide, Kenya and Tanzania – The Insiders
Guide and Victoria Falls – The Insiders Guide,
and is a past winner of the bird category in the Agfa Wildlife
photographic competition.
